AP World Podcasts by Unit & Key Concept

Here's a terrific podcast about the integration of the Americas into the global trade system between 1450 and 1750 from AP World History teacher, Mike Lutz.

Mike reviews the Spanish and Portuguese in Latin and South America, the development of the silver trade, the rebellion of Túpac Amaru and the centrality of the Catholic Church.

He also has podcasts for each unit in AP World, which are organized by key concepts and includes links to some topics in the episode. For example,  he includes a link in the episode below to the image of the Virgin of Potosi and to an episode of the podcast, 15- Minute History and of Khan Academy, about the development of the silver trade in the Pacific.

Here's a great review of the Ayssruian Empire from Marian Feldman for TedEd . The Assyrians developed the first true empire long before the Mongols or the British and developed innovations like efficient administrartion, constant innovation, and excellent infrstructure that continue to live on. They conquered a territory that included much of the Middle East and were known as militry innovators and merciless conquerors. They used siege tactis and cruel punishments.   Edleman suggests that the growth of the Assyrian Empire was partly due to their strategy of deporting local populations amd moving them around to fullfill specific needs.

German Unification: Documentary

Here is a good reenactment of the unification of Germany from the Learning Corporation of America.  It's dated and a bit corny but does a terrific job of reviewing Bismarck's central role in developing German nationalism through blood and iron.  The documentary reviews the three critical wars--Prussia's attack on Denmark to gain the German-speaking territories of Schleswig-Holstein, Prussia's defeat of the Austrian empire, and the crushing defeat of France in the Franco-Prussian War. Resources for Teaching Current Events and Religion

Teaching current events ?  Here are  some resources that I put together for a current events elective. You'll find resources for fake news, migration and refugees, the Middle East, and white nationalism. And if you teach world religions , here are resources that I put together for each of the different religions.   They include lessons plans, links to videos and video clips, and links to other websites. You'll also find information about methodology for teaching religion from The Harvard Literacy Project. Finally,  if you teach indigenous religions, especially Native American religion , you might find this unit plan helpful.  The plan includes four lessons: one on the features of Native American religion, one on the Native American encounter with British colonists, one on the colonial effort to reeducate Native Americans and convert them to Christianity, and one on current issues affecting Native Americans.
